Upgrade Thinkpad x200
Hello,
I have a Thinkpad x200 with 148Gb Hard Drive and 5GB RAM. I would like to upgrade it to 8GB RAM and 1TB SSD or HDD. I was looking at this drive from Western Digital: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-1TB-SS ... wd+1tb+ssd
I'm looking for suggestions on what are the best options.

Samsung is the comsumer-ssd leader. Check out their 860 EVO 1TB.
Before buying larger drives, I first spend a few minutes trying to clean up my disk - deleting crap, shrinking images, moving archived stuff to an archive disk.

Useful site for SSD specs & costs: http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/
Samsung are considered the 'best' but I find Crucial to be a better value with only a modest performance hit.

The cheapest brand of 1gb SATA SSD is from Colorful.thinkpadx200libre wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 9:07 pmHello,

Kingspec is probably the only maker of 1TB NVMe m.2 2240 sized SSD.
Frankly, if you don't need the extreme speed™, you could use a 1TB HDD 7200rpm (HGST is my favorite here) or a FireCuda 1 or 2TB SSHD (hybrid disk).

Re: Upgrade Thinkpad x200
Crucial has a 2TB SSD that is very reasonably priced for the amount of storage you get.
I would go that route if you plan to keep the lappy for a few more years.
Right now I am still using my X200s that I bought new many many years ago with a SSD upgrade.

My x200s is using a Samsung Evo 850 250GB, with 8GB ram, libreboot, and Arch linux. The machine boots quick and runs well, and for video playback MPV is installed.
x60 (T7200), 3.2GB ram & X200s (L9400), 8GB ram, both are using Samsung 850 EVO 250GB drives with bios flashed to Libreboot & Arch Linux
