Fn F5 isn't working anymore.

#1 Post by StarGehzer » Thu Jun 21, 2018 2:15 pm

On my X220 Fn F5 used to work fine. I've recently realized it doesn't work anymore.
Lenovo Update & Drivers doesn't list anything missing or required.
Could you please suggest what I might do to get it working again.

Edit: Running Windows 7 64
Edit 2: Running C:\Program Files\Lenovo\HOTKEY\TpFnF5.exe manually opens a small window that just asks if I want to turn all wireless radios on or off.

For Fn + F5 requires Hotkey Features Integration drivers and IIRC possibly the Lenovo System Interface driver for it to work properly. The Hotkey features also integrates with the camera and bluetooth drivers.

Look under Software and Utilities on the following webpage for Hotkey Features and other available drivers and software for the X220.

Thanks.. I had reinstalled that, in fact I tried a few different versions thinking perhaps there was a bug in a newer version.
After hours of tinkering I discovered that FnF5 needed "Access Connections" running for it to work.

Glad you got it sorted.

Some years ago I used to use Access Connections, but I haven't used it in some time. For me on my X220, Fn+F5 brings up a menu to turn on and off the WiFi, and Bluetooth radios as well as enter Airplane Mode. Seems that's all I need these days.

That's exactly what FnF5 does on my machine, now, & before it quit.
As soon as I enabled C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\Access Connections\AcTBenabler.exe as a startup the key combo started working again.
Access Connections isn't visibly running, but that file is a part of the app.

Well, I just did a fresh install on a new hard drive using the X220 Product Recovery Disks. After updating Windows and all the Lenovo software, I get what I wrote above. I did not install Access Connections. You are correct however that Access Connections does integrate with the Hotkey Features. I recall there was a proper sequence of installing Hotkey Features and Access Connections for everything to work properly on my old T42.

EDIT: Here is an old post of mine regarding some of this.

I envy you... I bought my X220 used. The recovery partition was gone & while a newly installed Win 7 was running, I didn't get install discs.
I downloaded some version of Win7 that I used a couple of years ago, but it was less than a smooth install.

I find after a few years Windows OS's need to be reinstalled. Mine is due again (odd problems & issues popping up). Not looking forward to it.
