Replacing the touchpad on an x220
I ordered the below replacement touchpad for my x220:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/173045440272
This item is only the touchpad cover and does not include the sensor and cable. To replace the cover it looks like I need to heat up the glue connecting the old touchpad to the sensor and then pry it off.
Has anyone else tried this with successful results? I am hesitant to try as the glue seems very adhesive and I don't want to end up breaking anything and having to replace more parts than I need to.

I've done it. It's pretty straightforward and with a little heat from a heat gun or even hair drier, it'll come off no probs.

I was able to remove the old touchpad using a hair dryer. Thanks for the help!

Hello there, I need to do this too -- might I ask, which part do you heat up? The trackpad side or the bottom, where the electronics are?
Re: Replacing the touchpad on an x220
while replacing palmrest in my laptop I had to transplant the touchpad. I remember that at some point I had the frame with button and top touch sensitive part. The only sticky things were tin foil tape grounding strips. I have peeled them off the old palmrest and put pack on place in the new one. No need to use any extra tools apart from screwdriver. The touchpad assembly (frame and touch sensitive board) were simply push-till-it-click. X220 tablet tho, the palmrest is a bit different than non tablet model.

You just heat the trackpad from above.
Keep moving the hairdryer left-right and up-down, don't keep it directed at one place.
