X200 Recovery hangs

#1 Post by bayou self » Mon Jul 16, 2018 11:55 am

Stops at "preparing hard disk". Generic Win 7 runs fine. Modded BIOS v3.22 and Slic2.1. Need Lenovo install for activation.
Could memory be causing problem? Again, no issues running the Win 7 already on there.

Check that BIOS/Config/Serial ATA is set to AHCI and not Compatibility.
FYI: you must run Recovery from CD/DVD and not from USB.

So if I check for ACHI, then burn the ISOs to DVDs, and spin them in an external DVD drive that connects via USB , it should work?

Obtained external DVD-drive, burned 32-bit Recovery ISOs. Unfortunately, at the end of the install I got "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware". I found a work-around involving msoobe (Out-of-Box-Experience) and was able to proceed, but then Windows refused to update. Began to suspect Intel Rapid Storage Technology and the Seagate HDD. Tried again with 64-bit ISOs. Exact same problems. Tried many fixes to no avail. Most common error messages were 0xc8000247 and “Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer”. Switched to a Hitachi HDD and all is well. Just finished installing Service Pack 1.
