You say you have tried high settings and I assume you mean for light touch as in Windows 7 software.
I don't have a X230 and I don't know what OS you are running but I can confirm that my X61 trackpoint is faster at the highest settings compared to my X220.
Later Thinkpads probably use cheaper material.
I would think you would just get accustomed to the X230 after a short while.

It's probably the touchpad, since it shares the PS/2 port with the Trackpoint. Even disabling it doesn't work, you have to disconnect the touchpad cable from the system board.
The problem with disconnecting the touchpad is that tpmiddle won't work anymore-- the system will identify the pointing device as a PS/2 Trackpoint and not an Ultranav, and loads the Trackpoint driver only. Tpmiddle makes use of the Synaptics driver API, and with that driver not loaded, it won't function.

Has anyone figured out how to bring back the trackpoint sensitivity option in the T4XX T5XX + line of Thinkpads?
