x61s, x201 and x230 trackpoint sensitivity.

#1 Post by Stevesoura » Sun Jul 22, 2018 12:23 pm

I was looking to upgrade from my x61s and found a x230. However, I am not liking this trackpoint on the x230. It feels very sluggish and slow even at high setting compared to the x61s. I was thinking and hoping that the x201 would have a similar trackpoint sensitivity like the x61s. Or any suggestions?

You should really state what OS you are running.

You say you have tried high settings and I assume you mean for light touch as in Windows 7 software.

I don't have a X230 and I don't know what OS you are running but I can confirm that my X61 trackpoint is faster at the highest settings compared to my X220.

Later Thinkpads probably use cheaper material.

I would think you would just get accustomed to the X230 after a short while.

It's probably the touchpad, since it shares the PS/2 port with the Trackpoint. Even disabling it doesn't work, you have to disconnect the touchpad cable from the system board.
The problem with disconnecting the touchpad is that tpmiddle won't work anymore-- the system will identify the pointing device as a PS/2 Trackpoint and not an Ultranav, and loads the Trackpoint driver only. Tpmiddle makes use of the Synaptics driver API, and with that driver not loaded, it won't function.

I'd have to agree... in the opposite

Not sure where you found one that's "slow and sluggish." The X230 I picked up is far too touchy with the standard driver for Windows 10. I had to actually install the old driver, turn the sensitivity down to its second-lowest configuration, record the registry setting, (I found 7 to be best, while 4 is stock) and then reset that registry value with the 19.x driver reinstalled. It's now much more manageable and feels about as accurate as how it's set up on my X200. Too bad there's no easy way to set it in Windows 10 without having to do so "blind."
