I'm not sure exactly what the specifics are but I can give you the information for mine. I have mushkin 16 GB ddr3. It's just over $100 through Newegg. The only caveat to me telling you this is that I bought my x230t with this pre installed so I do not know if there are any bios modifications required to make it work but from everything I ever read on ThinkPad upgrade pages it should just plug and play.

Just do NOT go for any so-called "Value" RAM versions, they are 2nd or even 3rd choice.
Over the years I have used many brands without problems, such as Samsung, Micron, Axiom, Hynix, Kingston, etc.
