X201s/X200s WXGA+ AFFS screen in an X200?

#1 Post by Monkeyfume » Fri Oct 26, 2018 10:14 pm

I'm looking to upgrade my X200's dying CCFL display and am finding conflicting information online.

Am I correct in thinking that all X200s/X201s came with a 1440x900 WXGA+ display with LED backlight and AFFS (early IPS equivalent) technology?
Am I simply able to buy an X200s/X201s display (such as this one on Ebay) and slot it right into my X200?
Or is there a more widely recommended way to upgrade an X200 display? (51nb hi-DPI display isn't an option for me because of budget)

1440x900 LCDs weren't AFFS. They only made 1280x800 AFFS displays.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Oh, ok. Too bad. Are either of these displays slot-in replacements, anyways?

The 1280x800 CCFL screens use a different cable and inverter compared to the 1280x800 LED ones. The X200 Hardware Maintenance Manual has an extensive parts listing.

The 1440x900 screen requires not only a different cable and inverter, but an entirely different lid assembly as well.

Finally, the 1280x800 AFFS screens are CCFL-backlit. There are no X200 models with LED-backlit AFFS screens.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
