X220 Trackpoint Trackpad not in Device Manager (Win7) [Solved]

#1 Post by StarGehzer » Sat Nov 24, 2018 2:30 am

I picked up an X220 that had no hard drive. I've installed a drive & set up Windows 7.
Everything seems to be working except the Trackpad & Trackpoint.
In the Bios they are enabled. I tried switching them off, rebooting, then putting them on again, but no change.
In the Windows Device Manager there are no devices that don't have drivers, & I can't find any mention of the Trackpad, Trackpoint, or UltraNav. UltraNav driver & utility have been installed.
I removed the keyboard so I could remove, inspect, then reinstall the 2 ribbon cables, (one from the keyboard, one from the palmrest) but it didn't make a difference.

Please offer suggestions on what I might try in order to get them working. I really only want the Trackpoint and the 3 buttons to work, I don't use the Trackpad.

Edit: I just ran MSINFO32. Under Components/Problem Devices it shows...
Device: ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device
PNP Device ID: ACPI\LEN0020\4&2444D20C&0
Error Code: This Device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.

It's still not working, but I'm gathering data.

Edit 2: Solved!
In the BIOS I disabled the Trackpad & the Trackpoint showed up in the Device Manager & works! . Seems you can't have both enabled at the same time although the setup defaults in the BIOS leave them both on.

Thanks for looking.

The touchpad is probably malfunctioning. Since the touchpad and Trackpoint share the same PS/2 mouse port, one of them malfunctioning will cause the other to exhibit issues as well.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
