x200 AFFS mod - Backlight fails after a minute

#1 Post by j9m » Sat Mar 09, 2019 7:01 pm

I know this is a common mod, so would like some advice or know if anyone has had this same issue.

I ordered a Hydis HV121-WX4 120 (the matte version) that came shipped with the digitizer on the back, but no touchscreen on the front.
My current screen uses the ccfl bulb and I can tell this because the lcd is labelled as having it.

So after connecting the new hydis up it runs for about a minute, looks amazing, but then the backlight dies. I can hear a short whine from the inverter as it goes black.
I can suspend the computer, then when I power it back up the backlight comes back on and seems to stay on.

Replacing back my initial screen and everything runs as normal.

Could this be a bad inverter, or is there something on the motherboard causing this? Maybe the cable or bulb is bad?
I could try test a few of these things but just wanted to ask before I buy anything else to test with.
Thanks lads

Likely your inverter is weak. The IPS displays need brighter bulbs so they pull more current. Likely after a few min the inverter is tired and fails.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
