x301 complete overhaul + FSB overclocking + pictures

#1 Post by WarhawkCZ » Sun Jun 09, 2019 4:48 am

Hello everyone, I've just finished my short article on x301 overhaul. It is a followup on the previous thread.
You can also use it as a manual for the FSB overclock mod.

Have a great weekend,
Jiri

PS: I believe it is OK to link my site here, since the page is advertisement/profit free and contains the picture gallery. :)

I wish I could say yes but there is still a smell in the keyboard I could not wash.
But the chassis is clean. It worked.

I really like what you have done with your X301 and I still use mine daily. The screen ratio / resolution suits me and I like the build.

The soldering for the FSB overclock mod is probably beyond me but I might get someone in Perth to do the job for me.

For what I do on the X301 I have enough power and I run a lean system. My Windows 7 64 bit Pro install is down to 12.6 GB so I will take your lead and dual boot with MX Linux.

Thanks!
It would be grat if you could do the benchmark with your non-modified unit. You can even just boot the MX Linux from the flashdrive. The tool is called "System profiler and benchmark".

CPU Blowfish - X301 Machine 1197 MHz 14.992 / X201 540M Machine 6.07

CPU Fibonacci - X301 Machine 1197 MHz 5.997 / X201 540M Machine 2.11

I am still away but I installed to a USB drive with the above results. Clearly MX Linux doesn't recognise my SU9400 and I only get 1200 MHz or 6x.

I like MX Linux but apart from the CPU more importantly the screen has poor contrast in Linux compared to W7. Also the sound from the speakers is lower in Linux despite adjusting Alsamixer. So I will keep Linux on my X301 but mainly use Windows 7 for now.
