Battery optimization X201?

#1 Post by Thinkpad4by3 » Wed Oct 09, 2019 4:13 pm

I checked powertop on Ubuntu 18.04 on my X201 and its running a pretty consistent 15-20W which drains my worn out 9 cell in about 3-3.5hrs. Any way to extend that?

(I'm trying out Linux....again, coming in knowing 1000x more linux, I can really see the appeal. Not switching yet...but as a secondary/portable...its nice :D )

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

My limited experience with Linux has been that battery life always suffers in comparison to Windows.

I know that this is not what you want to hear.

My suggestion would be searching Ubuntu forums as well as posting this question in our own Linux forum, there's several people who could probably point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

You can try tweaking some power settings on ubuntu. Open settings and click on power icon to open the power settings.
Do keep bluetooth and wifi off if not in use and keep brightness low. Also quit apps if not in use.
TLP is also a good option.

A low power gui xfce would be lighter on the CPU and thus the battery would help
Also if you havent already put even a small cheap ssd in it, the SSDvsHDD is better for almost everything, speed and power use. I can get near 3 hours on a smaller battery on my x201s running MX. but I keep the screen not too bright
