Dear All,
it looks my beloved X201S is near its end...
I have been struggling the last two days with shutdown/restart loops, no power sequence, boot process normal for few seconds, ten seconds, twenty seconds, followed by shutdown, blinking power light, no way to power off, same with or without battery, etc.
One time I was able to boot Win 7 in "safe mode", one time I was able to start Win 7 normally until it went in chkdsk by itself and then boot normally but stayed alive and working for about 2 hours and then again shut down on itself.
Not sure if all is lost (motherboard? ) but I want to copy my data as soon as possible.
Which kind of bay should I buy?
SATA to USB?
I would be grateful if you could suggest some links to a specific product.
Here are the specs of my X201S
5397-FEG i7-640LM(2.13GHz), 3GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1440x900 LCD, Intel HD graphics, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, X200 UltraBase+CDRW/DVDRW, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64
thanks a lot in advance,
Annalisa

Easiest would be an external USB drive casing.
Check what's on offer here: https://www.ebay.it/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... g&_sacat=0
You can also buy such casings in any halfway decent computer shop.
Look for an USB 3.0 version, they are backwards compatible with the older USB 2.0
You can put in any 2.5" HDD or SSD and copy your X201s data over onto it.
Or just put your X201s HDD into it.

Ok, thanks a lot.
Should I restrict to the 2.5" size or there are also models compatible with both 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs?
A.

You can get 3.5" casings that will also fit a 2.5" drive, but they are a lot bigger and (usually) require a separate power supply.
Stick with just a 2.5" casing.
