What's needed to fit a webcam to an X220 without one?

#1 Post by jkn » Thu Jan 21, 2021 12:38 pm

Hi All
I have a Thinkpad X220 Tablet; very nice, but I think it is not fitted with a WebCam. Neither linux nor Windows shows the device listed. It looks as though there is a glossy black sticker over the hole for the camera in the screen fascia.

What is likely to be needed if I were to try to fit a webcam to this - just the camera board? Camera + cable? or anything else?

Thanks a lot

Grab a copy of the X220 Tablet Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM). It contains the parts listing and disassembly instructions. Click the "HMM" link just below this site's banner. From what I remember, the camera cable is the same one that connects to the LED indicators on the lid, so check the different cables FRUs to see if there's one that's specified "w/o camera" or something.

2. If you have an Intel 6300 WiFi you may have to remove the 3rd antenna on the lid to make way for the webcam.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
