X200 - replacement HDD - Lenovo System Update?
X200 - replacement HDD - Lenovo System Update?
I have installed Win 10 on my X200 after installing a replacement HDD.
Is there any reason to run the Lenovo System Update utility to get back to the factory Lenovo drivers etc or does Win10 install everything that the X200 requires?
Is there any downside in using the Lenovo System Update utility?

Re: X200 - replacement HDD - Lenovo System Update?
I don't even think there are official Win10 drivers from Lenovo for the X200. I would first try with whatever Win10 installed by default, and if something is missing, try to download that driver individually.

Re: X200 - replacement HDD - Lenovo System Update?
Does Windows 10 just install generic drivers for the X200 following a fresh install of Win 10 using a new HDD with no Lenovo hidden partition...or does Win 10 automatically go looking on the Lenovo site for the correct drivers?
Windows Update provided some "optional" updates which included Lenovo drivers....I think for the trackpoint and LCD.

If I were you, I'd replace that HDD with an SSD.
Still NOT a great day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff).

Re: X200 - replacement HDD - Lenovo System Update?
Neither. Windows 10 will find, for each device, the best driver that's available in the Windows Update database. For many years Microsoft has been working with hardware vendors and OEMs to put as many drivers there as possible, and indeed you will see many Lenovo-branded drivers downloaded from Windows Update.
