ThinkPad X200 dc power problem

Hello,
My X200 has recently got this problem which i can't for the life of me seem to cure. The battery is fine, i know this as i've checked it on another machine. When i power on with the battery and adapter in the laptop powers up and boots no problem but when i take the adapter out the laptop turns off with no lights present. When i try to power it back on with only the battery in there's a weird low screeching sound coming from the motherboard that i can't seem to find exactly where it is. If i reinsert the adapter with the battery in i get no power and it's only when i take the battery out that it'll power on again. If i insert the battery with the laptop on wile it's on the battery will show connected in the taskbar. I've not reall tried much yet apart from testing the battery in another machine and it works fine. There's no screeching noise with the adapter and battery connected. I'm using window's 8.1. The noise is not coming from the HDD or fan but seems to be from the motherboard which leads me to believe a component may have gone.

Is there anyone having the same issue? Any advice is appreciated!

@loisford:
Now read your post again, but in a different, much more readable format and with some corrections.
(PS: obviously I have too much time on my hands, but I did this for the greater good of other Forum members).
