Found a new use for X301 infected by Absolute Lojack

#1 Post by 28CarsLater » Thu Dec 11, 2025 6:48 pm

I installed Debian LXDE with Pi hole and a few other tools (openssh-server htop net-tools dnsutils wget vim) and after setting a static IP on my DD-WRT router (also server=[static ip] under Additional DNSMasq Options) I have Pi Hole up and running replacing my DNS queries and blocking ads on the network level. The X301 is too niche and underpowered for normal use and I originally bought it as a parts machine knowing it was infected, but the 2009ish version of Absolute evidently can't infect Linux - this may have already been known but was a guess on my part.
