I haven't been this excited about a ThinkPad for ages. Go Lenovo!

The article says:

"a 13.3-inch LED backlit 1440X900 screen, an ultralight 2.5 pound form factor"

NOW WE ARE TALKING!!!!! Also, besides the trackpoint, it has a touchpad (which I prefer)! I may upgrade to this from my HP nc2400!

But I am suspicious of the weight. If Apple had such a hard time making their Macbook Air three pounds, how could Lenovo make this higher-res 13.3" Thinkpad half a pound lighter?

lenovo uses carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) instead of aluminum and/or titanium.   swapping metal for composites could easily make up for 0.5 lb.

Lots of errors on those spec sheets makes me wonder if its real though. And if it's going to be SSD only, it will be very pricey.

Hmm, I thought I saw a bunch of typos earlier, but now I can't find them... Only thing I find now is on the last page it says Thinklight supported in the left column and unsupported in the right column. I do hope it's real, but if it's 64GB SSD only I certainly won't be able to afford it this year

This looks fantastic... can't wait until it's available! Only downside is what appears to the 1.8" drive (hence the SSD). I imagine they'll also offer it with a normal ipod-type hard drive for cost reasons, but this could always be upgraded once the SSDs get cheaper.

i believe the "supported/unsupported" columns were improperly translated from chinese or japanese.   the "unsupported" column lists supported OSes, which makes no sense.

There is nothing about the dimensions of the machine. The weight is great, but I'm more interested in the "height" of the machine.

The MacBook Air is less than an inch. The X60/61 series is 1" at the most. Nice, but less than 1" would be better.

just got my X61, this X300 is coming true, wat am i going to do with my X61?

It looks like the spawn of X2. and Macbook. But still, slick.

It's on the first slide with the specs: 318 x 231 x 18.6 - 23.4.

The display resolution and weight looks very promising but I fear the lcd panel quality will be a disaster like usually. Only if there wasn't the thick display frame.

For comparison, the X61s is 268 x 211 x 20mm, which is substantially smaller (about 25% in volume) than the X300, but the X300 is actually 0.2 lbs lighter. Either the weight of the X300 is misreported, or the X300 uses much lighter material than the X6*.

Did you notice the detailed spec sheet says "Display Port" ?

Wonder if it has a good webcam 1.3mp in the final version? Since nowadays all notebook comes with one. hehe

Wow, this is good news. If it has a good LCD panel I'll sell my T60 and buy this (provided they offer it without the SSD). 13.3" is a great form factor, and at WXGA+ this is really amazing. It'll be fun to see how this machine compares to the 600X.

This will be the first laptop with 13.3" 1440x900, right? I wonder if Lenovo opted for such a screen in response to our constant whining about low-DPI screens (including 12.1" @ 1024x768 and 13.3" @ 1280x800).

Just sell it. But remember, this X300 won't be available for another 6 months or so, and it will probably be pricey (i.e. you may want to wait several months for a coupon code and/or sale). So, you'll hold on to your X61 for a while.

I think Lenovo moved to LED backlit displays at the right time. Anyone who have pointed out why they don't have a LED display yet should check out macrumours forums for example, multiple instance of yellowing LED backlights and very uneven lighting. If one reads the review of Notebookreview.com, the LED 15.4" showed to have a ~100 nit difference from one small section to another for example.

Hopefully the faults with LED backlights have been more or less ironed out, but still suffer from the generally obscure chromatography of TN displays, while contrast may be improved a bit.

In my opinion, it still seems a little much to reintroduce the 1.8" drive form factor, when SSDs obviously are very expensive, and 1.8" HDDs are very slow. It has the same height as a 2.5" drive anyways. But ok...

If majority of the specs are correct, I am getting X300 and selling X61T.

that's why i will wait at least a year to get one. by that time all this new technology will hopefully get cheaper and all the problems "ironed out."

I still don't believe that early generations of SSD will reach the reliability of HDDs in terms of number of write cycles.

I picked up my tablet a couple of months ago, and plan on keeping it around for a couple of years.

I just bought an x-series too and I'm very happy with it, but if the description is accurate and build quality remains high, x300 is the dream laptop:

1) 4 hours on a 3 cell battery. Has accomodations for a second battery on board: http://gizmodo.com/photogallery/x300/1000528029

If there's an extended, say, 8 cell battery bay option and the second internal is the 3cell ultrabay slim... man... I don't have words for that.

2) Full size keyboard.

3) "ultra light", "ultra thin", looks like spawn of Macbook and Thinkpad. (This is growing on me.)

4) Good resolution.

5) Has options for every antenna/port/communications/biometric device one could reasonably need.

If this thing is legit, it's the laptop of the future. Things will get faster, cheaper, and more efficient, of course, but man, price removed x300 is the laptop many a professional has waited for.

I'm fairly certain that that's the case because the weight of the X300 is described as "2.5 lbs >>> 3.17 lbs". So, 2.5 is probably for a unit with the standard battery and 3.17 for one with an extended battery.

Or without the optical drive inserted? I'll be keen to see official specs and more picture angles (even though it seems pretty close to the prototype pics in the other thread) that either confirm or deny the given weight.
