WXGA+ LED Panel

#1 Post by jmbene » Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:00 am

I don't know but almost anybody isn't taking care of this panel. I think it represents a revolution in a 13.3 inches laptop because you can't find it in any place and if you need a road warrior with a high definition (1440x900) screen this can be your laptop.

I wanted to know if it is known the manufacturer of the panel, the model or some details about it.

so is this the first LED backlit thinkpad? who ever has it by now..., how does it compare to macbooks? is this the same screen+LED macbook.air comes with?

whey cant they 'LED backlit' every TN panel in recent thinkpads? is this something that comes with the panel from samsung/lg.philips, or is this something later added by the notebook manufacturers?

yes, this is the first commercially-available LED-backlit thinkpad display.   it has higher resolution than the macbook air (X300 @ 1440x900 vs. MBA @ 1280x800).

backlights are built into the display panels and cannot be easily changed.

My understanding of the advantages of LED-lit panels are:

1.) Brighter.
2.) Will not dim. Will work at the same illumination level always.
3.) Can be put in a thinner frame.
4.) More eco-friendly for recycling.

So, is it true that there's a Samsung and TMD LCD panel for the X300?

I just got the parts for my now shipping X300. I have FRU#42T0476 which indicates it's a TMD panel. Any idea which is better?

Thanks

parts lookup says mine's a TMD as well.   one of our moderators, ryengineer, is the one who said there's also a samsung display but i haven't read of anyone receiving one.   supposedly the TMD is better according to ryan (ryengineer).

my X300 is slated to arrive on thursday so i guess i'll find out soon enough what all the fuss is about. ;)

There's some more discussion on the X300 screen on the lenovo forum:

My X300 has the TMD screen too, so I also wonder how many, if any, have a Samsung (especially since 1440 x 900 resolution 13.3" screens seems so unusual right now).

For curious souls I will be soon posting pictures of two X300's with Samsung and TMD display side by side, give me some time.

The reviewer at NBR also received X300 with Samsung display:
The particular screen on our X300 was manufactured by Samsung.....

Mine arrived with a TMD screen as well it seems, I really like the brightness of it compared to my T61,X61t, etc. but the sweet spot for the viewing angles is too small for comfort... I was almost sure I had one of the Samsung screens that people have been talking about until I actually checked.

What is the Manufacture Number of the Samsung Panel there is no other Panel mentioned in the HMM then the TMD? What type of Connector use the Display 20 or 40 Pin?
