Something's up at Lenovo's site. Hint: x300
Yup, looks like they're getting ready!

If this machine lives up to all its hype, it will be the ultimate "Apple killer"!

having JUST got my oily paws on one, i can say my msuspicions are confirmed..
confirmed!, i say..!!
the only small negative is the display bezel width..
beyond that this new X300 thinkpad is a worthy successor to all its really great ancestors..
i will be taking some photos later of some of those ancestors with the X300 and posting them in a new thread..
what i said to someone else about this:

what i said to someone else about this:
well, i learned what went on with fedex..
the guy delivered it to 117 rather than 177.. wrong addr on label..
looked in and saw house was empty..
texted the central station with my phone number and THEY failed to call me so he took it back..
and by the time i started raising hell he was too far gone..
so my tenant called his driver who called the driver who had it and he put saturday delivery labels all over it and here it is..!
and what a neat little thinkpad it is..!
so far i like:
the keyboard with the raised arrows on the page forward and backward buttone, the dispplay is very nice but not an IPS display, the silkscreen on the keyboard bezel for the plugs on the left edge, the bright display and even the blue light under the thinkvantage button..
the logo's on the top cover are very nicely done..
this thing is LIGHT..
so light it took a full 10 seconds to reach the floor in the drop test while running..![]()
it connected quick and easy to my wifi..
don't likes:
the wide bezel around the display but i suppose it is necessary..
i'm looking for something else not to like and so far there is nothing more i don't like..
as i suspected, this vindicates lenovo, being willing and able to continue the thinkpad traditions..

Thanks for the brief report. It's lucky your new machine finally got to you despite the Fedex goof-up. Yes, nice to know that Lenovo is doing some good things with our "babies" and the name is in good hands. Considering the money I've spent recently, I will be a T60 man for a long time to come, but I can look at them as the X300's "big brother".BillMorrow wrote:having JUST got my oily paws on one, i can say my msuspicions are confirmed..

You might Google for some reviews of this newcomer. There are a few out there now, and some size comparisons might be included.icantux wrote:I'd really like to see a pic of this thing next to a T-series (T60 - T61) 14.1" 4:3 standard aspect ratio box for a side-by-side size comparison (of the whole computer, not just the screen).
I saw one comparing the Apple Air (or whatever it is called) and it's slightly thicker and every so slightly larger. I believe Notebook Review has something now.

all i have to do a photo size comparison is:
T60p UXGA, X60s, X60Tablet, Transnote, 570, 770, 860 powerPC, 755CDV, 760CD and a 240..
its interesting to note that the X60s with its base is about the same physiucal size as the old 755CD yet Oh! so much more powerful and feature laden..

Bill, can you add the 600X to the mix?

The S30 was way ahead of it's time. Back when it came out, it never would have sold well. In the US, small ultra-compact notebooks STILL don't sell that well; I don't include the Airbook or X300 as ultra-compact notebooks b/c they're not.
I used a Panasonic R3 for some time and it was the best 10.6" Ultra-Compact notebook at the time (and it still is, I believe). It weighed in at a little over 2 lbs and I don't think it sold more than a few thousand units in the US.

i've had my s30 since 2001 and it still looks like a modern subnotebook. even though i never use it for anything productive these days, i can't bring myself to sell it just because it's so unique.
getting back on topic, the X300 looks to have received a few design cues from the thinkpads that set a few standards through the years including the s30, 600, and T42p. i can't wait to get one.
