When I purchased my X61T, I also bought the Ultrabase w/ a DVD drive. When I attempted to place that DVD drive into my X31 Ultrabase, it did not fit as it was much "thinner".

So, can anyone tell me if this DVD drive will fit into the X300 drivebay and work?

No, the X300 drive bay is much thinner than the 6X series optical drives.
