Received my shipping notification it is going out today, and if all goes well should receive it Tuesday via UPS. When the order was placed, the website indicated 2-3 weeks for shipping and it has gone out in 14 days.
Now orders are shipping in 1-2 weeks in most cases.

Will not know for certain until it is delivered, but based on MS licensing practices, the answer would be no, but... if you have an existing XP system and will not have XP installed on it as the same time as the x300 you could reuse the existing license.
Or, you can always pick up a copy of XP Pro for $130 on ebay or any of the literal hundreds of internet retailers from $50-$100.

the X300 doesn't have a recovery partition due to the small size of the drive. it ships with physical recovery media of the OS licensed to use with your machine.sayagain wrote:Is there an XP recovery image in the Recovery partition, on a Vista modeled X300?
this post over at lenovo's forum explains in better detail.

Received mine this morning as well, just playing with Vista on it now to get a feel for the machine, but will have XP on it by end of day.
All in all it took a total of 2 weeks and 3 days to arrive, but I placed the order on a Friday, and delivery times now are less than 2 weeks.

Picked mine up today here in the UK.
If all goes well, 2x2Gig of RAM and the bay battery should turn up tomorrow morning before I have to set off for the airport.
The biggest impression that the X300 has made on me is the build quality of the thing. It is staggering - way in excess of any laptop I've ever used previously. It feels as if the entire thing is hewn from a lump of granite, but without the weight.
It's also going to take a while to get used to not hearing a hard drive spinning!

Hi,
I ordered my x300 on 02/29 and received it on 03/24. Unfortunately I had to send it to the technical support right away, since my fan keeps running on full speed after a couple of minutes (and doesn't slow down again) and my display has dead pixels, which is totally unacceptable for me (in light of the fact that this is probably one of the most expensive and supposedly sophisticated machines on the laptop market right now).
I hope they can fix those issues. I wouldn't want to return it, since it indeed is a fascinating machine!
Will keep you guys up to date!

A great experience
I ordered my "custom" X300 last week (4/3) and it arrived yesterday 4/10. Although it was purchased by the University, it was not done through any special program, just a regular online order with some necessary tax-free negotiations to deal with personally.
What surprised me most about the X300 (3-cell bay batter and 6-cell extended battery) is that it weighs within 50gm of my X60s with extended 8-cell battery. I really thought I'd get a lighter unit, but I guess not. I have to get all new WaterField bags for it, but generally it's OK. In retrospect, the X60s is still an amazing computer...

X-300
Ordered an X300 online from Lenovo 06/25/08 and received an Order Acknowledgement email indicating anticipatd Ship Date of 08/06/08. However, a 06/28 email provided shipping details and UPS Tracking Number. Computer arrived today 07/01/08 six days after order was placed!
