Best thinklight ever?

#1 Post by Jackboot » Wed Feb 27, 2008 1:08 pm

I've read several mentions about the X300's thinklight being the "best ever". I have NOT read any details that explain why the thinklight on the X300 is different from previous versions, i.e., what makes it better.

Can anyone shed some light on this topic

For starters, the thinklight is near the bottom of the LCD bezel - which means it light the keyboard better and does not glare in your eyes. Also, beleive that the LED used is a bit brighter than the ones we have till now.
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Hmm... my x300's Thinklight is in the same place as it has been on the last three Thinkpads I have owned. I wonder if there are two different screens parts, seeing yours is at the bottom?

In fact.... the light may be a bit more "distracting" as it seems a bit less shielded... although I will have to check this against my T60 when I get home tonight.

mine is at the top, too.   i've never seen an X300 (or any other thinkpad for that matter) with a thinklight at the bottom of the LCD.

abendx, I don't have a X300. I speculated looking at this pic from lenovoblogs:

Sorry if I am wrong.

One thing though, compared to any previous model (T4x, A3x, T2x), the thinklight on the T60 is better - it spreads light evenly on the keyboard, does not glare in my eye and is a bit brighter. I'd expect that the one on X300 is even better ...

ps: Erik, where is my photo review of the X300? :)

Wow... that pic does show it at the bottom.... we were cheated! Must not have worked as well? I will do some comparisons with my T60 later and see which I like better and report back.

what you're seeing is glare from a light source -- either the thinklight or an overhead canister light in the ceiling.
