SSD Performance issues? High return rate of SSD at Dell
The following article raises issues with SSD performance at Dell. Their return rate is 20-30% because performance is not living up to expectations. I am curious if there is similar sense from X300 users.

Dell claim "What was reported by Avian Securities is wholly inaccurate by orders of magnitude".
If the failure rate was 20-30%, it certainly would have shown up the the Lenovo forums. I haven't seen a single report of a failure.
In fact Avian is pedaling backwards as fast as they can. They now say they "can't and won't challenge Dell's data".
I guess none of us had heard of Avian before this, had we?

It's likely that the high rate of returns is due to the customer being unsatisfied with the price of the drive and limited storage and not due to drive failure. For many the $1000 premium can't be justified so they return it for a less expensive model. The complaints are similar in this forum with many X300 buyers not being able to justify the $3000+ price tag when they know they can get an X60 for $1000.

There are quite a bit of short sellers trying to drive the stock price down lately. Funny that a stock analyst reported something like this even if true would only be a tiny portion of Dell's business.

I had to return my last two Dell computers and they did not even have a SSD.
Dell's quality is not what is used to be. Both a laptop and desktop units had to be returned as they were defective right out of the box!
I do not believe that there are that many units going back for the SSD, but it is a good excuse!

the info week article is not entirely accurate..
and the guy trying to move DELL stock should be ashamed or investigated by the SEC..Avian Securities says the rate of return on SSD notebooks from one major manufacturer ranges from 20% to 30%. Dell confirmed that it was the manufacturer.
how much DELL stock does avian control..?
are they short on DELL..?
i have been using an X300 for about a month now and the SSD is performing like a champ..
it is entirely transparent whether its a HDD or SSD..
well, not SO transparent..
it is dead quiet where an HDD is not as quiet..
and so is the X300.. or nearly dead quiet the exception being a very soft and short duration "sigh" when the fan comes on..
as for the $$ cost.. ALL new technology will cost a bundle until it matures.. don't ASK me how much i paid for an 8k (yes "K") memory board when THAT was new technology..
so what have we got here..
an X300, using an SSD, that is arms and legs better than the macbook air (mentioned) for so many reasons i won't list them here..
quite as a stone and as solid..
read MATT's blog page and learn a few facts about the SSD in the X300 and the SSD's in most other laptops..
