Does the X300 drive bay fit a 2nd hard disk adapter? Can the same model as for current T-series be used, fitting 9.5mm 2.5" disks? Can only SATA disks be fitted into the 2nd hard disk adapter or PATA also?

I don't think so.

No. The bay itself is what I believe to be the industry’s first 7mm thick optical drive. Even if we did provide a caddy for a hard disk, mobile hard disks are too thick to physically fit.

Not quite true. They actually could accommodate a caddied 5mm thick 1.8" HDD in there. (80GB)

at that rate they'd be better off just making an expresscard adapter bay to accommodate a wider range of expansion like SSDs, media card adapters, wireless adapters, eSATA adapters, etc.

No plans at the moment to support a bay HDD .. it's optical, bezel or battery.

I had the same idea, an adapter bay with PCMCIA/ExpressCard slot, that also has a card reader or firewire port on it(should be enough room on the bezzle I think)
they seriously need to consider more options in that bay, especially since the x300 doesn't work with a "true" dock
