Hi,

I just took the Macbook Air for a walk outside and found that its screen is very readable in teh shade. Also, in direct sunlight it is rather readable (some shadowing of the letters since the sun hits the front of the screen first.

Has anyone looked at the X300 screen in very bright light. I am often outside and my old laptop was very hard to read.
The air has a 300nit LED screen like the X300, but I wasn't sure about anti-glare layers, etc. that may make the air so readable in the sun.

I haven't tried it extensively and it is dark outside now.. but the few times I have been in direct sunlight with my X300 I had to turn up the brightness a few notches and make sure I was at a good angle - and it was readable - not fantastic, but no better/worse then other laptops I have used in the sun.

Macbook Air has glossy display which isn't suitable for outdoor viewing since glossy screens reflect glare when light obstacles hits them.

Anti-glare (Matte) screens used by thinkpads offer better readability under sunlight conditions.

Brightness wise you won't find any significant difference since both Macbook Air and Thinkpad X300 come with 300 nits screens.

I work in a brightly sun lit room and I find the X300 screen is easily viewed. Outdoors in direct sunlight it would be difficult to use, but you need to realize that virtually no laptop will display well in direct sunlight. The matte X300 screen is better when it comes to reflections compared to the glossy Sony screen I also use; however the Sony has a more true to life picture.
