Serial Numbers..

Hi,

I'm on the verge of purchasing a X300 from a seller but I also want to get the serial number of the machine I'm potentially buying (to look up warranty, parts, etc.). However, they claim not to be able to see it on the box (it's sealed). Can anyone provide me with an example of how the serial number goes on their X300. Don't post your actual serial number, but in the format it's supposed to be in if you understand what I mean.

For example, I currently own a X40 and my serial number is in this format: XX-XXX00 00/00 (X = letters, 0 = numbers). Are X300's still using the same serial number format?

Thanks

Yes, and it's on the box as well, otherwise how would they be able to include it on an invoice without opening the box?
Do they really have them in stock?

I totally agree with AndyP - I have not come across a ThinkPad yet that does not carry a Serial Number along with the Machine Type, Part Number etc on their box's. It sounds as though the seller may not have the X300 in their possession(?) or they may possibly be acting as a third party agent taking orders for and on-behalf or a wholesaler/distributor with shipping directly from them.

Here's a current ebay auction for a pair of x300's, although the picture of the box is not particularly clear you can just make out the top line is the Machine Type - Model, the second line is the Part Number and the third line is the Serial Number - which the seller has blanked.

Hope this helps :)

if your seller has the laptops, then he/she should be able to provide you with the serial numbers.
