Hi,

It may be just me but I suspect that my keyboard was not installed correctly. When I push "A", "S", "D" buttons the area around these buttons is flexing a little.
Did some else encounter such issue? Is it normal? I recall that my X60S keyboard was firmer.

Mine is fairly firm in that area. My X300 flexes a bit more on the opposite side near the Enter key. You might try removing the keyboard and reseating it.

mine does the same on both sides (A/S/D and J/K/L) if i push extremely hard on the keys and i know my keyboard is installed properly.   how hard are you pushing?

It happens when I am "lost" in work and apply a bit more pressure.

I too have this problem, and I find it deeply annoying. The flexing is just bad enough to make rapid typing difficult. I cannot get a straight answer from IBM about how to resolve it.

My case history with IBM service:

1. They sent me a new keyboard, which I installed. No help.

2. During the installation I noticed an empty "screw hole" in the frame, approximately under the "D" key. IBM service told me that was a manufacturing mistake, and sent me a "screw kit". When it arrived, all the screws were too small.

3. I then sent the unit in for service. When it was returned, marked as repaired, the same flexing problem was there.

3. In my next call, a new technician told me that the hole is actually for drainage (in case of spilled beverages), and should not have a screw in it. He told me the flexing is a known problem with X300's, caused by improper routing of the antenna wiring. [He didn't say whether it was the wifi or EVDO antenna; I have both]. He asked me to send it in again.

4. I just got it back, "repaired", but it is no better.

I've had dozens of Thinkpads over the years, and never a problem like this. Now I don't know what to do. If this affects every X300 I will have to decide whether to live with it or try to return it.

Does anyone have an X300 that DOESN'T have a flexing keyboard?

Still hoping for a response: Does anyone have an X300 with a firm, non-flexing keyboard?

like i said above, mine only flexes if i push extremely hard on it.   in normal use it's solid and tactile.   i'm typing on it right now and have no complaints.

Ditto for me.

Mine just feels very springy all over.

My X300 was manufactured on Apr. 17th. There is a very slight flexing on the A/S/D side when I press very hard and virtually none on the right side. I did not even notice until reading this thread and the flexing hasn't impacted my typing.

I just heard back from IBM. After consulting with Lenovo engineering, they told me that the flexing keyboard is considered "normal" for the X300, and it will not be fixed.

I've owned perhaps a dozen Thinkpad models over twenty years, and each time I made a buying decision vs. the competition one of the major factors was the legendary IBM keyboard quality. This doesn't rank up there with global warming or world hunger, but it's very sad to see Lenovo turn their back on that tradition.
