Page Fwd & Back Keys on X300: Assigning dif. functions?

Has anyone tried to re-map those keys or assign different functions to them? Those 2 keys (located above the right and left arrow keys) don't seem to serve too much purpose for me and I'd like to be creative by assigning them to function as something else!

i know there are key remapping software available but I doubt they would be able to assign another keystroke to them because most laptop--an standard-- keyboards don't have dedicated page forward/back keys.

Thx in advance!

You actually can remap those navigation keys. I have remapped the right and left navigation keys to right and left arrows on my sister's R51. It had a broken arrow key. The keyboard sensor wasn't registering and I didn't have a replacement keyboard. As a temporary solution I swapped the locations of right and left arrow keys with the navigation buttons. Now instead of an inverted "T" her arrow keys are a right side up "T."

This was about a year ago and I never did find another keyboard... so I guess you could call it a permanent solution now. I don't remember the program I used, but it had the ability to "capture" keys, so it didn't matter if it was nonstandard. I'll try to find it again if you don't have any luck. It was a free program.

Thanks Virgie. I would not have suspected so based on my owning other laptop without specialized keys! (The X300 is my first ThinkPad and now I'm a convert.)

I've never actually tried doing it, but from reading the forum it should be possible to reassign those keys using the relevant ThinkVantage application.

thinkvantage keyboard customizer can enable/disable and change the press duration required to invoke the fwd/back keys, but they can't be remapped.   with TVKC installed it might be possible to find the keymapping in the registry and remap them the hard way, just like many have done with the access IBM/thinkvantage button for years.   i dunno. :??:

one of the users who responded mentioned success remapping the thinkpad web-forward key to a left winkey using this
