USB dock for X300 by Lenovo - video expansion not working?!

I've finally got my hands on the USB expansion dock/port replicator with video support.
I've installed the drivers, restarted my x300 and plugged everything in.

Extended desktop mode as well as mirror mode for VGA work, however, not as it should. The display mode is 1440x900 on my X300 and i wish to have the same resolution on external monitor - I've tried with Lenovo Thinkvision 22" and 19" (the lattest has native resolution of 1440x900) but both output only 1280 x 1024 and the picture is - as you'd probably imagine - extremely garbled.

What can I do, has anyone had luck setting this up? Otherwise this USB dock thing is useless for me if there's no RGB expansion capability that works.

Thanks for your help

Which frequency do you have the external moniors set at?
VGA monitor output – supports video resolutions up to 1440 x 900 at 60Hz; 1400 x 1050 at 60, 75, or 85Hz with superior quality

I can't set the external monitor's resolution manually, however, it is set at 60 Hz default ... :(

EDIT: I've now attached the 19" monitor and I can get mirror mode working fine. mirror mode for me however is useless. How can I get the extended desktop mode working?

I also can't use Fn+F7 because it says "system has detected Lenovo USB Enhanced dock blabla... and you should control from there and switch modes etc...." Unfortunately I can't get extended mode to work. My notebook' LCD is fine with 1440*900 whereas external 19" is still 1280x1024 with totally garbled picture.
