Hi,

I'm about to buy a X300 running XP PRO and I may have been given some misinformation. Need to verify the following:

1. The X300 with UWB can be achieved without having WWAN? I've been told that they are inter-dependent (ie. you can't have one without the other)

2. Can I add UWB later via a mini-PCIe card or does it have to be factory fitted? Does anyone know a distributor or the Lenovo FRU #?

3. We use HSPDA (not CDMA) for mobile broadband....is it true that the only card that will work without modded BIOS is the Sierra MC8775?

UWB and WWAN can coexist.   i have both cards in my X300 right now and added both after i received it.   these two cards install in two different mPCI-e slots: UWB near the memory and WWAN under the keyboard.

intel turbo memory cannot coexist with WWAN as they use the same slot.

Regarding UWB, what I meant was to ask if the WWAN is required for the UWB to work. I am aware they can coexist. Thanks.

No. UWB is completely independent.

since they are 2 different cards i'd doubt it. The coexistence relies on GPS and WWAN as the GPS portion comes from the Sierra Wireless Card. UWB is something different all together.

3. Yes, the only UMTS/HSDPA card that can pass without '1804 error' is Lenovo-branded Sierra Wireless MC8775. I doubt it's changed since 1.02a BIOS, from where I've read this information.

Which devices are currently widely available for WUSB?

Widely available? None. In Europe many countries didn' t even assign frequencies for UWB yet, hence there isn' t a UWB card for Europe from Lenovo. Only US and Japan. We have to wait a little more.

BTW: WiMax will be integrated in Intels next Centrino Generation. We will have to buy the new WiFi card to get WiMax in our X300.

Will WiMax also be provided area by area or globally available promptly?

That depends on how you mean that question? Do you mean Lenovo providing a card or the countries governments providing frequencies?

Thanks for your clarification. I've gone ahead to purchase a X300 without UWB nor WWAN at the moment. It came with Vista Business but I'm in the midst of converting it to Windows XP Pro as I write this.

I'm keen to purchase the UWB or WWAN (Lenovo Branded MC8775) add-on...if anyone has ideas on where to purchase it or would like to sell the item to me, please send me a PM! I'm ok for used items as long as they're working well.
