Integrated Camera Help

Hi,
Would you someone mind going into their BIOS > Security > I/O Port Access, and tell me if they see a entry for "Integrated Camera" or something similar?
I can't find it in my BIOS, and I can't get my camera to work (in Vista). The drivers won't even install. I can't see it in the Device Manager (or any unknown devices). It's very odd.
Any suggestions welcome.

do you have a category for "imaging devices" in device manager? that's where it shows up under server 2008 so it should be the same under vista.
i logged into the BIOS (1.05b) and found camera access under Security > I/O Port Access > Integrated Camera > [Enabled/Disabled]. if you don't see it then reflash your BIOS and try again. if you still don't see it then something is wrong since the BIOS shows port access options regardless if the actual options are installed or not.

In device manager, I do not even have an imaging devices section.
As to the BIOS, it was on 1.05b. I couldn't find this option, so I flashed it with 1.04. The option is still missing. Why would my unit not show the option, even though you, who has the same BIOS, does show the option? Weird.

it should be enabled by default either way. that's really weird.
do you have an option for WiMAX in the I/O port access area of the BIOS? i do under 1.05b, and i certainly don't have a WiMAX card.
perhaps your LCD cable got damaged or a connection failed and the camera isn't registering in the system. i can't imagine what else would cause your problem.

Yes, everything else shows up: the WiMax, the DVD drive, even the microphone (et cetera). Just not the Integrated Camera. I just tried flashing with 1.02a, and that didn't help either. Guess this is my second X300 that will be going back.
In my mind this problem is very very odd. Is there a chance that the BIOS is looking for something in one of its tables before it enables the Integrated Camera? Perhaps one of these tables on my computer got screwed up?

i'd try removing the keyboard and unseating/reseating the LCD cable, then reflashing 1.05b.
what did tech support have to say about it?

Did the reseating and no luck. Going to try tech support today, if they're still open.

Lenovo technical support was useless. Once I told them the problem extended to the BIOS, they wanted me to take the laptop in to a local BEST BUY! Lenovo is sinking pretty low with this.
Would you (or anyone) mine sending me a copy of their BIOS? This is generated automatically when you update: (C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7tuj05us\bios.bak). I want to run a diff to see what differences pop up!
I feel like one of the settings tables in the BIOS is probably messed up.
Thanks!

NM, WinPhlash does not download all the settings from the BIOS. Sigh.

Oh goody. My laptop came back from the depot after two weeks of waiting for parts. They replaced the motherboard, and shipped it back to me.
Oh wait, my problem is with the webcam! Yep, the camera is still not working, and not showing up in the BIOS. This is so ridiculous. Risk another depot repair?

Hi,
Hopefully someone who knows Lenovo service centers can help me. My webcam is clearly not working, since it does not show up as an option in the Bios, under Security > I/O Port Access. However, the techs claim that it should not show up under the BIOS. They also say they do not yet have a "BIOS Simulator" so they can't verify this.
What can say to them, or point them at, that would you would convince them that this option does indeed exist and my laptop is screwed?
Thanks.

Not sure if this helps but my X300 shows the camera in the BIOS (1.05b). It shows WWAN and WUSB too (neither of both are installed), so I'm not sure if this indicates the camera being faulty.

Thank you so much! I'll ask them to look at that!
Such an easy solution!

Thanks for the help -- it's now fixed.
My X300 just came back from the second depot repair attempt. All in all, it took 5 weeks. If anyone has the same problem, I suggest taping a note to the laptop to make sure they check the BIOS before sending it back. They even gave me BIOS v1.7. Not sure what it does.
