Ok so the choice is a 5-1 card reader with a modem or a 3-1 without a modem... do both of them read SD cards? Why does the 3-1 option drop the modem?

I found that weird also. I got the modem even though I didn't want it so I could get the 5-in-1.

what he heck, why is the lenovo site so crappy with its information? I always have to search the internet in order to determine what the heck they are really selling?

I know the Lenovo site doesnt even tell you what the 5-1 reader or the 3-1 reader actually reads... and I called one of the nitwits in sales and he didnt even know...

Can we assume one of the 5 formats in the 5-1 is SD? Thats what I need for my business camera use... I see the 3-1 being referred to as an SD card reader so I'm confused...

tabook says the 5-1 reader is MMC, MS, MSPro, SD, and SDHC. So I'm guessing the 3-1 reader is just MMC, SD, and SDHC?

The card reader and modem are on the same daughtercard, so the 3-1 no modem option probably saves you a few more grams...

exactly.
3-1 is a bit smaller compare to 5-1,
I would prefer 5-1. as when I had 3-1 i had ugly hole on right side of laptop, where modem connector should be.
finnally 5-1 reads and writes SD cards much faster.
