I saw the 13.1" 1600x900 Sony Vaio Z series in person today. The screen is miles better than any X-series Thinkpads, with vibrant colors and much better viewing angles. The base of the laptop feels very strong, although the display lid is pretty flexible due to its extreme thinness. The keyboard is very different than Thinkpad/HP/Dell keyboards, but I managed to type quite fast on it nonetheless, so it's okay. The main problem is the weight. If this laptop were lighter, I would buy it in a heartbeat (using my grant's money, so the $3,300 price tag isn't much of an issue), but at 3.42 lbs, it's about as heavy as the X2* Thinkpad, which is unacceptable for my travel needs.

Just buy the X200s LED backlit which is 3.2 lbs for the 9-cell that laptop mag review on-line claims lasts almost 11 hours with WiFi or get the six cell battery if you want less weight.

Part of owning a laptop is having it when you need it and the Thinkpads are just that much more durable and reliable than the competition.

I haven't seen X200s WXGA+ display yet. Watching current Lenovo production it is very likely that the display will be horrible crap (X300 is the worst example ever). Sony is willing to use better TN panels.

I have a X200s and i can say the screen is very nice. I would rank it right up there with my 15" MacBook Pro LED screen (well before the crash it had)


1440x900 is great and not hard to read on the 12.1" screen.

How about another 2510p? They're selling them with SSDs at the HP Business Outlet Store for less than $1k.

I'd love to see that WXGA+ show up on the X200. I don't use my notebook enough to justify spending $1500 on one.

Sony Z's lid flexibility is designed that way. it is still extremely durable, don't believe me see below:

I own a 2510p with the 1.33ghz ULV , 64GB SSD(6 cell) and the ThinkPad X300 (3 cell) both.

I have to say, the only thing I like about the 2510p over the X300 is the battery life (I get about 6-7hours with normal use, 6 cell), the performance of the X300 feels (stress on "feels", I havnt run any tests to quantify if this true) way way more responsive.

Yes from the HP Outlet you can get a 2510p for $1000 (although the SSD option is very rarely available) and an X300 can be had for $1250 (after 25% live cashback from ebay).

imho, I would NOT recommend the 2510p over the X300. Oh and I just listed the 2510p on craigslist, yes the X300 feels that much better.
