to x200 or not to x200?

hrmm, i usual do not buy brand new tech, but the x200 really appeals to me atm. I currently have owned a x60s for about 1.75 years now and the battery is shot with 366 cycles... I was thinking about spending some money on a new battery, but now I think I want a new laptop. Though I can not decide whether to jump ship and purchase the x200 or wait out a bit for the holiday and then buy one

it looks so pretty, and i want a wide screen notebook... though i would much rather have a x300, but they have no option with normal 2.5" hdd (they could have made a killing with a x300 with hdd)

If I do not buy a x200 I might just buy a macbook or refurbed mbp... hrmm is that a mistake? (maybe)

I'm also debating whether to get the newer, more expensive, x200 or get the cheaper x61t. It's significantly cheaper with all the discounts.

Need some advice on whether the x200 is really that much better than the previous generation(s)...

i hear it is especially with the centrino 2 platform, well on power efficiency, but marginal performance increase. I read it was like a really good upgrade, but not a totally new animal, like when centrino platform was released.

but i think i will try to hold out for the x200s, i hear there is rumor about it. hopefully its true. im sick of the 4:3 aspect ratio, makes me feel less productive, but i guess its just a personal issue for me

I'm leaning towards getting the x61t right now...

I get a nicer screen, and the tablet features for couple hundred bux LESS. I think I can live with the slightly shorter battery life and hotter machine.

X200 vs 15" macbookpro is my my dilemma also. Current t42 has served me well - I'm a photojournalist & notebook goes everywhere with me in a backpack. Thinkpad is a very robust machine. But for AU$3k for X200 2.26Ghz vs AU$2100 MBP 2.4Ghz it's a no brainer. Weight isn't an issue - I carry lots of gear and the MBP is only 200gm heavy than t42. Plus my back/shoulders have been stuffed for years.

Only question is can the MBP handle the rough & tumble of my work. I know the x200 will.

Of course it is. It gives you 30% more pixels. Go to this post to see how useful these extra pixels are for Word documents.

That would be a mistake. You seem to be looking for an ultraportable laptop. The MacBook is about twice the weight of the X60s or X200. If you really want a Mac, get the MacBook Air.

If possible, take a look at the tablet screen in person before committing to buy. It has "a nicer screen" in the sense that the viewing angle is wider than the non-tablet X series, but the downside is that it looks grainy. Some people don't mind that, but others (including me) hate the graininess. Also, the tablet weighs about a pound more than the non-tablet X series.

I've always liked MacBook Pro, but I find its aluminum housing to be prone to dents and scratches if you're not care.
