X300 Re-boots on Windows XP

#1 Post by ranjanv » Thu Aug 14, 2008 4:13 am

My Lenovo X300 has rebooted on me 3 times so far. Doesn't happen often and there was no warning each time. Suddenly, the screen just blanked and the computer rebooted itself. Didn't have much applications running either.

There was no BSOD - Although I do have a separate BSOD problem which happens when I shut down my HP USB Printer.

Is anybody facing similar problems? Any remedies to share?

I would reformat and start over. It could be a number of issues that would take some time to find out. However if it is a hardware problem, with a fresh install of XP, it will exhibit the same problems and if it isn't hardware, then your problem is solved until you install the same program or software that caused the problem in the first place. After a reformat, don't install anything for a few days and then start doing the windows updates and driver updates since it could be one of those as well mixed with software. Then install your software one by one and see if it works without a problem.. Hopefully this resolves your issue.

What was the last thing you installed before this started happening? if it is a driver, do a rollback of the driver. If it is a program, uninstall it. It could be as simple as that. However like I said above, if it is a hardware problem, it is best to save your data and do a full format and re-install of XP and take it from there. Then you send it to Lenovo if it is hardware related and let them figure it out..... Good luck..
