Greetings:

If you could wait, would you get an X200 or an X301?

What advantages does the X200 have over the X301?

What advantages will the X301 have over the X200?

What are the cons of the X301?

What are the cons of the X200?

Thank you very much for your time.

X200 pros/cons:
+ much faster
+ cheaper
+ harddisk size up to 320GB (but also SSD available)
- 1280x800 screen resolution
- no integrated optical drive

x30x pros/cons:
+ intergrated DVDRW
+ 1440x 900 screen resolution
+ fast SSD
- ULV CPU is slower
- SSD size is 128GB max right now (I think)

I would like a X200 with the 1440x900 screen resolution of the x300, but that is not available. If you need performance I would go with the X200, no doubt. The rest depends on your needs and how much you want to spend.

s0larian has made a nice list of whatever I came in to say ... I will add just one point: intel has just released information on new small-package processors that will be used in machines like X301, though the X200 will pack a big punch with those newer processors.

If you configure a 64gb SSD equipped X200, it became more expensive than a X300 minus an intergrated DVDRW drive.

Also note that X200 is almost the same weight as a X300, but much thicker.

I'm waiting for a X200s with a WXGA+ (1440x900) screen that supposed to come out around end of Sep.
That would be a prefect machine for me to replace my X300(don't really need a DVD drive, but size does matter.)

Ha...the WXGA+ X200s finally here!

Well, I think a 1440x900 screen on a 12inch laptop will kill your eyes. The characters are toooo small, a 1280x800 screen is just fine.

X300-series appears to have no true docking station or port replicator. I don't have high regard for USB docking solutions. That sort of kills the X300 or X301 for me.

The second spindle is only really useful to me so I can house a second hard disk drive. Having a DVD drive in the X30X without the option for exchanging it for a second hard disk isn't ideal (but still OK). I use the second hard disk to hold VMware virtual machines.

The slower CPU in the X30X series isn't a big deal to me. So far the only advantage I've seen is that a faster CPU allows IE7.0 to launch a second faster than it does with an ultra-low voltage CPU or a CPU that is throttled down through aggressive power management. YMMV.

Greetings everyone:

Thank you for your time and thoughtful replies.

So far it looks like the way to go is the X200; my only concern now is getting feedback on the integrated Verizon/AT&T/etc. option.

Thank you again.

I ordered my X200 on the 1st of October, it says it should ship 10/15 but I have since been finding a lot of compaints on ship dates getting pushed back by weeks. I did have a similar problem with my X61-T when I bought it, it was built fast but it was held in customs in Kentucky for weeks, I wanted to drive and get it so bad. They made it right, they sent me free RAM and refunded my shipping costs.

Here are the specs on the X200 I ordered:
