X200 and USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive 41N5565

Hello,

is it possible to use the Multi-Burner Drive 41N5565 (41N5567 for Europe) without a power supply (attached to the drive) with the X200?

The description from the drive says: "The drive can be powered by an available USB 2.0 port with the included power adapter or by direct connection to the USB 2.0 port on supported systems such as the ThinkPad X40/X41, X Series Tablet, and X60 Series
systems (power adapter not required). "

I think the description is older than the X200 so maybe the drive can be used with X200 just using the USB connection too?

Thanks for any help.

Thomas

It should work with just 1 USB port. But if it's not enough power, the USB Multi-Burner does come with a Y-adapter that can draw power from 2 USB ports simultaneously.

Thanks for your answer. But I don´t think that the drive comes with a y-cable.

The manual says:
The option package includes:
- Lenovo USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive (With LightScribe)
- 1 Standard USB cable
- AC adapter
- Lenovo USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive (With LightScribe) Software and Guide Super CD
- Lenovo USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive (With LightScribe) Quick Installation Guide (one)

Sorry, you are correct. I have one of these and just checked the box. No Y-adapter. I was thinking of a portable hard drive that does have a Y-adapter.

i owned the 41N5565 drive for a few months and it only required use of the USB cable.   the AC adapter is for use with USB 1.0/1.1 systems.

I would definitely not be buying the Lenovo multi-burner, it is way overpriced, you can get an LG usb powered one for $110, or a lite-on one for $70. Both are far cheaper than the Lenovo one.
