No international warranty support for the X200

#1 Post by hesh.nosaff » Sun Sep 14, 2008 6:28 pm

I would like to buy an X200. I spend much time traveling outside the U.S. (in Singapore mostly).
When I looked up warranty information I found out that no international warranty is offered on this model. When I asked the online help the person confirmed this. I am concerned about buying the laptop because I need to rely on it working and if it breaks down while I am on the road I need to be able to have it fixed quickly.
It seems unreasonable to me that a laptop that is clear designed for travel would not offer this (I am willing to pay a bit extra, but that doesn't seem to be the issue; the option is just not offered). I thought of perhaps buying the laptop in Singapore, but it if not offered there yet (and it would probably be much more expensive there, as most Lenovo products are).
Advice will be much appreciated.

Hi, has this problem be figured out? How could I check if certain model has international warranty? Or is it an optional part?

The Lenovo IWS page now shows X200 7454 CTO as valid for IWS in most Asia, North America and South America countries:

like all new models
it takes time to get all needed spare parts and tech. info to all the service centers lenovo / ibm has around the world,
in general all lenovo / ibm models has this int. warranty , just that when a new model comes out it takes time to have the technichians and other staff to pass the neccacery courses to know the hardware and how to service it.

Just checked lenovo.com's IWS page and looks like the X200 with code "7454" has warranty for most countries!

I think the X200 is a good buy especially since many websites are offering it for $1100+ only. And it performs better than many ultra lightweight laptops like the X300 or Macbook Air.
