X200 WinXP Pro 4G Ram Max Avail?

#1 Post by mobfrek » Thu Sep 18, 2008 3:25 pm

Hello Everyone,

Appreciate any owner of X200 or experts can help me verify this:

If I to install 4GB of DD3-1066 (2 x 2GB), would I be able to share 128MB (or more?) for onboard video and still be able to have 3.5GB of main memory for OS and program use?

The X200 I am planning to get comes of a stick of 2GB (1 x 2GB DDR3 1066MHz, so it says) and Vista Home, but I like to upgrade this to 2 x 2GB DDR3 1066MHz and downgrade the OS to WinXP Pro with SP3.

If the above is possible (besides the share video memory part), are there any special settings I need to do in the Bios and WinXP, so the 4GB use is maximized?

Thank you in advance.

No you won't. The max amount of ram XP allows won't change.. In other words, XP doesn't allow the use of 4GB.. Stick with Vista in my opinion so all 4GB are used..
