Love my X40, can the X300 replace it?

I have a Thinkpad T400 as my main work laptop but I am looking to upgrade my X40 as the casual browsing, vacation, travel laptop.

What I love about my X40 is how light it is (2.75 pounds), it has an SD card slot build in and it's the perfect size in every way.

My only gripe with the X40 is that it's starting to get a bit long in the tooth performance wise.

Is there a way to configure the X300 (or 301) to beat it in terms of size and weight?

X300 weights:
2.93 lbs (1.33 kg) with 3-cell battery and empty bay with travel bezel
3.16 lbs (1.43 kg) with 3-cell battery and DVD burner
3.35 lbs (1.52 kg) with 6-cell battery and DVD burner

i've owned both the X300 and X40 and would choose the X300 for business travel any day.

Why not the X200s if you don't need the optical drive?

I replaced my wife's X40 by an X300 and I'm going to replace my X40 by an X301. So for me the answer to you your question is a clear yes. However if size (rather than weight) really matters for you then you should go for an X200. And I really miss the SD card reader on the X300.

X30x price does not justify its features. Especially its super ugly low end display. X200s WXGA+ seems to be better option.

I'd get the X200 if you were happy with the X40 and save yourself a lot of money over the X30x and X200s. The X200 is already on sale and you will find it a significant improvement over the X40.

As an owner of a X40 and X300, I think the X200s would be a better choice. The screen on the X200s is smaller than X40, and higher resolution too -- which can be bad for some. Aside from that, I think it's a great replacement.

My personal issue with the X300, is that I prefer a design without a DVD drive, and instead more battery life.

If you're a fan of the x40 form factor, pick up an X61/s while you still can.

otherwise X200 all the way

Me too. This is why I replaced in the X300 the DVD by the bay battery.
