Hard Drive Questions for X200/X200s

#1 Post by leesiulung » Sat Sep 27, 2008 11:58 am

A few questions about hard drive features in the X200/X200s

1. I think the X200(s) uses a 1.8" Hard drive. Is this correct? These seems hard to get.

2. Can any hard drive that has the right size and have SATA work with the X200(s)?

3. Is the free fall sensor built into the laptop or the hard drive? Meaning will any drive that fit into the laptop work with the free fall sensor (Active Protection System) feature?

Help would be appreciated.

X200s uses regular hard drives and the APS is built into the laptop so you can use any 2.5" 9mm hard drive. Check out www.newegg.com for great prices and service. a 320 GB 7200 RPM hard drive costs only $110.
X201s: 1440x900 LED backlit 2.13 GHz, 8 GB, 160 GB Intel X25-M Gen 2 SSD, 6200 a/b/g/n, BT, 6-cell, 9-cell, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1, Verizon 4G LTE USB modem, USB 2.0 external optical drive, Lenovo USB to DVI converter
Previous Models: A21p, A30p, A31p, T42, X41T, X60s, X61s, X200s

1. The X200 has a 2.5" SATA disk slot. However, if you order an X200 with an SSD, you get a 1,8" Samsung SSD mounted in a 1.8"-SATA-to-2.5-SATA" disk adapter.

2. In theory, any 2.5" SATA drive should work with the X200. If the 1.8"-to-2.5" adapter is compatible with other 1.8" drives than the 1.8" Samsung SSD is not known.

3. Built into the laptop. Might require hard drive firmware updates to work with non-Lenovo provided hard drives.
