I'm looking into my options to get an X200s with either a AT&T or Verizon broadband card. (I don't want an X200 because of the low-res screen and I don't want an X30x because of the slower processor)

Since Lenovo doesn't offer this as an option, any idea if its possible to get an internal card that works in the PCI express slot? If I do that does that mean I have to take out my WiFi card?

I can of course buy a USB or one for the card slot, but screwing with those all the time is annoying. Or will Lenovo offer a X200s with WWAN one of these days...

I'm in the same boat. I'd like either an X200 with the high resolution LED screen or an X200s with WWAN. For the X200s, I suppose the main questions are:
1) Is there space for the WWAN antenna?
2) Is there space for the WWAN card?

Can someone with a new X200s please rip it apart to answer these questions? Please ...

Well, it would be nice if the card had an antenna to attach to. None of the current X200s' are listed as WWAN upgradable, which I take to mean that there is not an antenna in place for the WWAN card.

It appears you are correct. I would stick with getting an X200 if you want better reception with tour WWAN card.

Now if only they would put the 1440x900 LED screen in the X200 ...

Why did they do this again? Same story with the X61s, where you could not order WWAN and the ULD (ultralight display) in one Laptop.

Only the Thinkpad Reserve Edition (X61s based) offered ULD and WWAN in one device. Sad.

My zero information guess is that the lid material/design for the X200s does not allow for the extra WWAN antenna. Either that or there is not enough space for another mini PCI-E card on the motherboard (oh, excuse me, ... on the planar card)

So I guess my only hope for a 1440x900 LED display and WWAN is if they offer the high-resolution display with the vanilla X200 (which I don't see any kind of technical impediment to).

So I guess we just wait and hope that Lenovo releases the model we want ...

I'm in the same position. The only reason I'd want the X200s is for the high-res screen, nothing else. Until then, I'll hold off on a purchase until they offer the higher res model on the standard X200 series or update the next line of X200s to offer more expandability (unless it will be possible to mod an X200 with an aftermarket WXGA+ screen!).

I don't understand the logic in providing the higher res screen in the underpowered, less expandable s series (apart from possibly being more power efficient).

The X200s 1.86 GHz CPU has 6 MB cache with TDW of 17 W vs. the X200 CPU of 2.4 GHz having 3 MB cache of TDW of 25 Watts. The extra cache adds about 10% increase in CPU performance making the 1.86 GHz effectively about 2.05 GHz. The less than 20% increase of the 2.4 GHz processor may not be so significant since much of the performance of the laptop is modulated by the hard drive performance. Plus, thanks to the lower TDW of the low voltage CPU you'll get longer battery life. The USB wireless is due sometime in October.

I'm here to bring you guys good news. Just try to customize the X200s a while ago, and three options for the screen appear. First one is WXGA (1280x800), second option is WXGA with WWAN and UWB, and third option is WXGA with WWAN. They are all priced at $9999. They're probably working on fixing that, so it was pulled. Also, new processor configuration is added (SL9300)
