X300 mini PCIe SSD

#1 Post by garcia916 » Thu Oct 09, 2008 9:53 am

Has anyone tried to add a mini PCI-e SSD module to their X300?

I was thinking of using one of these as additional storage space for like storing My Documents and other files.

I do have an extra mini PCIe slot since I do not have the cellular feature.

that card is approximately 16mm (~5/8") too long and won't fit in a thinkpad.

this one might work as long as the BIOS doesn't throw an error code for an unauthorized PCI device being installed.   however, there's no guarantee that the system will recognize the card.

Ok, I received the card and you are right it does not quite fit however, if you move the BIOS battery it does fit but it just cant be screwed down.

So after getting the card in, it was still not recognized by the BIOS or Vista, any ideas?

if it isn't recognized by anything then it won't work.   keep in mind that the BIOS is programmed to expect two types of cards in that slot: turbo memory or WWAN.   since this isn't one of those, the system doesn't recognize it whatsoever.
