Hello Everyone, I own a Thinkpad x31 that all of a sudden is not working, I was running linux fedora 7 when all of a sudden it crashed, when trying to reboot, i get this beeping at startup, they are 4 short beeps (4 times).
The screen does not display anything, I am not sure what to do, any suggestions???

Beep codes are listed in the hardware maintenance manual which can be found here:

4 cycles of 4 beeps is a system board problem related to the security chip. It may be that the chip is loose. Usually it means the board is bad.

Oh man, it sounds like a pricey problem to fix... thanks a lot for the link, and if anyone knows where I can buy the needed part for a not so expensive price, please let me know.
Thanks

X31 Base Unit on EBay
If you get a complete base similar to the above, reassembly using your own existing parts (keyboard, LCD, RAM, etc) is simple screw driver work as long as you follow the manual. You can even sell the defective base as parts to re coupe some dough.
X31 Maintenance Manual.

Well first make sure the chip isn't just loose... Prices on X31, X40, even X60 are dropping and that base is a bit pricey, it might be worth checking out whats available for sale before repairing.
