X200s gone from Lenovo US website? What does this mean?

Browsing the Lenovo US site today, I noticed that the X200s appears to be gone. What's up with that?

Does it mean they are changing it and perhaps finally offering it with WWAN? I really like the X200s because of its LED screen, long battery life, and light weight, but I want WWAN!

I would go with the X301 because I can get an LED screen, WWAN, WiMax, Wifi, Bluetooth, SSD and everything else I want except for a docking station... close... close...

X200s could be perfect, if it would just come out with WWAN...

Usually Lenovo removes a model only if they have manufacturing/delivery/QA problems. A new feature (like WWAN) usually just shows up as a newly available option.

Don't know about CTO units, but pre-configured X200s units have been shipping for several weeks now.

Hmm. It is still not back on the site... strange.

I'm still hoping they will add WWAN to the X200s...

How do you feel about not having the docking station on your X301? I could get everything I want in the X301, but the docking station. At least there is display port, so I can drive a big external monitor.. But I'd have to plug and unplug it all twice a day...

I think you bring up a good point about what the X301 is really designed for. I'm a strong supporter of the X301 but I would never try to dock it even if it offered a docking port. And I probably won't ever use the DisplayPort either. The 1.4GHZ processor, Intel integrated graphics, and 128GB drive are just not powerful enough for the video and photo editing I do. That's why I have a 3GHZ Quad Core Desktop with 8GB RAM, GeForce 9600GT, 5TB of storage, and 24" WUXGA LCD. I think if you intend to use your laptop as your primary computer, a T400 with integrated graphics would be a better compromise. The X301 is really designed for the business executive to keep up with emails, work on documents and spreadsheets, and give powerpoint presentations. That's why its configured the way it is.

I don't know. I'd argue differently. I am an engineer and I do a lot of "professional" apps like circuit board layout, code writing, autocad, etc, etc. I do them all on an old T43, so I really don't think they require much horsepower to run. When I do need heavy lifting, I run all of my MATLAB on an 8-core shared 64-bit machine with 16GB of ram and 19 TB of drives...

So, my actual daily machine doesn't need much in the way of processing power.... And it doesn't need much storage since I rely on my 2TB ReadyNAS at home for media and my 19 TB RAID at work for data...

I think I am mainly interested in a machine that is 4 lbs or less, because I carry it every where I go, all day. But, I spend most of that time docked on 2 big monitors.... I would be interested in another T series, but I think the T400 is a disgrace of engineering. It is much larger and thicker than my old T43, and yet it still can't fit a 6-cell battery without sticking out. My T43 does that fine. Plus, I think it weighs more once you clock in the extras...

So, Lenovo lost me there. I'm hoping they can redeem me with the X200, X200s or X301...

The X200 has the horsepower, but not the low-power, thin, light and bright LED screen.
The X200s has the sweet screen and better battery life, but no WWAN options...
The X301 has the LED screen, long battery life (or at least I hear, correct me if I am wrong), plenty of wireless options, but no docking station for easy daily connections.

Compromises.... Compromises.... I'm waiting to see an X200 in person to compare it to the X301... I don't know if I will be able to find an X200s to compare it to, so I'll have to wait on that.

Ok, The X200s is back, but nothing is new about it, except maybe that you can get a 128 GB SSD now. I'm not sure if that was an option before.

The X200 appears to have some new options for the screen:
12.1 WXGA (1280x800), 2x3 UltraConnect II antenna
12.1 WXGA (1280x800), 2x3 UltraConnect II antenna , WWAN, UWB
12.1 WXGA (1280x800), 2x2 UltraConnect II antenna , WWAN, Camera

Hmm... Wonder what that all means. Plus, there is an optional license for PC DOS that costs $99, 899! HAHA

Something strange is going on...

Right now, you can't customize the X200s...when you choose the Customize button it simply skips the entire CTO process and just takes you to the summary screen with the "Add to Cart" button.

I just wish they'd put an LED screen in the regular X200.

For a second i thought they were gonna cut the price by 400+ usd like they did to all the other x-series models.

Yeah, the website is still messed up. I wonder what is going on.

I'd rather they put all the wireless options in the X200s. I'll pay extra for the lighter LED screen and carbon fiber lid design! You hear that Lenovo? Cost is not an issue!
