X300 random screen scrolling

#1 Post by cbuck1 » Mon Nov 10, 2008 6:42 pm

On our X300 there is a very annoying problem where the screen will jump as if I'd hit the scrollbar. but it has happened when my hands weren't even on the keyboard. It happens in browsers, it happens in Open Office, it can happen anytime. I've played with the multiple mouse settings and nothing seems to affect it. I've downloaded the latest mouse drivers and reinstalled them. I've updated all my Thinkvantage software. Is this a hardware problem? Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

We're running Vista Ultimate (32 bit) and using Kaspersky for antivirus (which we're using on two other Thinkpads with no problem). We loaded SP1 but it's been happening since we got the machine.

I know if I send the computer in for warranty service they'll want to strip it down to factory defaults and reinstall windows, and I really want to avoid repeating the week I spent setting it up with software.

Thanks,

Craig

I think I've seen this (or something similar) occasionally on my T400 when the machine is slightly tilted. I attributed it to a far too sensitive trackpoint.

Oliver, I have another Thinkpad where the cursor will start roaming on its own, which may be what you describe. But the scroll thing doesn't seem to have anything to do with the trackpoint because it wouldn't even do this is you were moving the trackpoint, unless you grabbed the vertical scroll bar.

My bad. Has anything ever been spilled on the keyboard? Maybe there is a short somewhere.

Unfortunately, it looks like you are going to be headed to Lenovo support. No one else seems to suffer this issue.
