Why not?

XP drivers exist for nearly everything.

Should run VERY well. I am running Xp on my 301 and would have it no other way.

I ordered mine that way. No notable problems.

Mine arrived with Vista Business 64bit (I requested it that way, because I wanted 4 GB of RAM).

That was a big mistake. Vista is a terrible OS: it's slow, it's blotted, and it crashed my machined a few times.

I downgraded to XP Pro SP2 (with the recovery CDs the computer came with) and I haven't looked back. Everything just works, and my machine is now what it should have been: a fast reliable computer

Mind you that I lost 1GB of RAM because of the 32bit OS, but it's all right. I'm happier and more productive now with XP Pro.

Your machine have most probably crashed due to the Lenovo preloaded software than due to Vista x64 itself ;) If you had done a fresh install of Vista x64 (actually, one shouldn´t have to), you would have been surprised how well it would have run. Believe me, Vista is not that slow at all, but I agree that it is somewhat bloated and what I mostly don´t like about it is that it takes up so much hard disk space  (compared to XP or Linux). You can get your one GB RAM back, if you install XP 64bit...

Just my 2 cents

I don't know, Marin85. I tried everything: I optimized the UI as much as I could and everything was so sticky. It's hard to explain, but comparing my current XP setup and Vista, it's miles apart.

With Vista I never felt productive, as I had to wait that extra 0.5 sec to do anything.

I may try XP64bit sometime. For now, I'll stick with what's working. Every time I need to setup a new OS I sped 2 hours to get everything I need on it. It's such a waste of time.

i am running a student xp edition, customized by nlite and its blazingly fast:
shutdown in 8-9 secs ( not hybernating anymore  )
boot to useable desktop in 10 secs

It is entirely possible to run a Lenovo Vista machine out of the box with out crashing. I do it myself, and on different machines, so it is more likely user applications added and other problems. I am not saying that one should use the preload or any other applications, merely that the preload doesn't crash in my experience. ... JDH
