My 301 does the same. I notice that what I type is delayed on appearing on the screen and sometimes the touchpad does not respond and then all of a sudden it does.

I notice my System Idle Process is running 98-99% in the task manager but both processors are not being used but a small amount.

Maybe my XP Pro is indexing it's files as it seems to be getting better the more I use the laptop right after installing the huge slug of software. My T61p had simular problems with Vista at first. I am running 4gb of RAM and the 128gb SSD.

Are you running the original Lenovo Windows install? As soon as I got my X301, I wiped the drive and clean installed Windows and only the essential Lenovo drivers and apps. So far have not experienced a total system freeze. Once in a long while, IE7 will randomly crash but I think that's more of a Microsoft problem.

I am running the original. Owned many ThinkPads and never found it required to start all over. It should not be required to do so.

My 301 is not totally freezing, it is just hesitating for a second or two. Other than that is is working perfectly with XP-Pro

Just an update. It seems as the weeks have gone by my X301 has stopped the hesitation, well at least as the best I can tell.

I would have to say it was just breaking in XPPro and or File Indexing. The 301 with the 128gb SSD drive has really been a pleasure to use. This laptop has truely replaced my T61p with no regrets.

I smile everytime I pick it up and notice the smaller size and weight while I feel I have sacrified little!

Hi tehchu,

I once had this problem with my X200. The system randomly freezes and I cannot do anything. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del won't work too. I solved this by disable "Windows Hybrid Hard Disk Power Savings" in power options. You can read about my case in my blog: http://m3rlinez.blogspot.com/2008/12/so ... andom.html

ah ha! thanks m3rlinez. i thought it had something to do with the hard drive. when i had the task manager opened, i would see a 'spike' in the processor on the right whenever it happened, though my freezes weren't persistent like yours seems to be.

i've gone ahead and turned off the hybrid power saving mode, haven't gotten any freezes since turning it off and writing this post. i was frowning about this issue earlier because it means i couldn't run the laptop on the lowest setting while on battery, or i'd go nuts! thanks!!

SOrry but could someone explain, in detail, how I can access and turn off this "hybrid power saving mode". I am running XP Pro and can not find this option on the power manager.

Detailed instructions please.

Thanks!
