Does anyone have the x200 with Blu Ray?

#1 Post by spasell » Mon Dec 01, 2008 10:47 am

I am seriously considering upgrading from my x61t to a x200t as it appears the Elite version comes with a Blu Ray drive.

My question is for those that have that option.

How is the performance of your x200 thus far and the performance with the SSD? I'm not sure if it's worth the change over for me, but since I am now traveling a LOT more via airplane, and all my movies are now Blu Ray, and since there seems to be good deals on these machines, I'm seriously considering making the change and putting my x61t that is only 14 months old on Ebay.

Any thoughts and input on this would be great.

I'm also wondering if people have downgraded to Windows XP Tablet edition or if not Tablet just Windows XP. I've heard some bad things about Vista and not sure how it affects performance of these machines.

I do love my x61t, although I'm finding that I am using the Tablet function less and less these days.

Thanks for the comments!

If you have the SXGA+ screen, it'll be a downgrade it resolution. You certainly could pick up an external Blu-Ray drive for the X61t, but the x4500 GPU on the X200t has better support for Blu-Ray.

SSDs are extremely fast readers, though sometimes can have trouble with write operations, even the good ones.

My own thoughts on Vista are it looks good, but it offers slower performance than XP, especially if you have a lot of junk running in the background like the ThinkVantage suite. A lot of the visual stuff can be reproduced by using software like WindowBlinds.
